Parent Connection October 19th

Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”
- Exodus 33:18-23
Moses makes a bold request. “Show me your glory.” Fresh from Mount Sinai, he ask God for a face to face meeting. He wants some reassurance that God is with him as he leads God’s people to the promised land.
But it is not to be. “…for no one can may see me and live.” But the Lord does grant him a special favor. “…you will see my back…” Moses doesn’t get to see God’s approach, but he does get to see where God has been.
Often in life we may think, “Why doesn’t God just reveal his plans to me now? Why do I have to wait to find out what his plans are for me? Why doesn’t God just come to me and tell me what to do?” But at these times he says to us as well, “You can’t see my face.” He covers us with his hand as he passes by. It is not ours to know ahead of time what God’s plans are for us, since, as He declares in Isaiah 55:9 says, “my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
But in a way God lets us see back. We can see how he has worked in the lives of his people in the past. We can remember how God has worked in our own lives, preserving and blessing us. We know what God has done for his people. We know what God has done for us. We can trust that the God who has been our loving shepherd in the past will continue to provide, protect, and lead his people in the future.
An oft repeated Christian saying goes, “We do not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future.”
Thank you, Lord, for directing our past, present and future for our good. Help us to trust in you. Amen.

God bless your week,
Principal Schneck J

Parent Connection October 12th

When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him,“Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith!” – Matthew 8:5-13

When the President of the United States asks the butler in the White House for a cup of coffee, no one would expect him to be refused. When the CEO of Apple asks to see the latest sales numbers, they likely show up on his desk in a matter of minutes.
And when the Lord of heaven and earth tells a sickness to leave, it leaves.
There was no doubt in this centurion’s mind that all Jesus needed to do was command, and it would happen. The commands of authorities are followed, and Jesus, as God’s Son and our Savior,  is the ultimate authority.
Do we believe like the centurion? When we have problems, wants and needs, do we worry about them, complain, or lament, or do we take them first to the one says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (Psalm 50:15)?
Lord, give us faith like the centurion, to believe and trust that you have all things in your keeping.
            God bless your week,
Principal Schneck J

Parent Connection October 5th

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” - 1 Peter 2:9

The young girl had lived in an abusive home. Her mother was addicted to crack cocaine. Her mother’s live-in boyfriend was an alcoholic. By court order the girl was removed from her abusive surroundings and placed in foster care.
Some time later her foster parents decided to adopt her permanently. But as the adoption proceedings came close to being completed, the birth mother decided to fight the process and try to get her daughter back. The girl, now in her teens, was given the chance to tell the court how she felt. She loved her foster family and wanted to stay with her adoptive parents. She was afraid to return to the household where she had been abused.
The judge not only ruled in the girl’s favor, but also explained to her what the adoption meant – that no one could take her from her new family. The newspapers reported her new adoptive father as saying, “There is only one name printed under “father” on this adoption certificate, and it’s my name.”
In a spiritual sense, the same holds true for believers. Enslaved to sin, we were once a part of Satan’s family, destined for eternity in hell. Satan claimed us for his own. But through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, we have been taken out of that abusive and deadly situation and into the safe arms of our heavenly Father. Though Satan still tries daily to tempt us away from our heavenly father and lay claim to us, God assures us that our adoption fee has been paid by the blood of Jesus. We now belong to God. We are his children. Under our spiritual “adoption papers” we find God’s name printed under “father”. We are his.
The event above happened almost twenty years ago, but I imagine that the girl in the story, now grown, continues to tell about her adoption experience, and marvels at the love her adopted family had for her. May we also daily “declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
            God bless your week,
Principal Schneck J
