Parent Connection May 20

Up to This Point….
The Israelites had once again strayed away from the Lord and His worship. They had been attacked and subdued by their enemies. They came to their senses and turned back to the Lord and asked Samuel to pray to the Lord for them. Samuel told them to meet him at a certain place and he would offer sacrifices for them and pray for them. When the leaders of the Israelites had gathered with Samuel, the enemies heard about the gathering and decided that it was their opportunity to really do some damage to the Israelite community so they gathered their army to attack.
As Samuel was offering the burnt offering to the Lord, the Philistines gathered to attack but never got near the Israelites. The Lord heard the cries of his people and “thundered” His answer. That thunder struck fear in the hearts of the Philistines and threw them into such disarray that they were easily routed by the Israelites.
After the battle, Samuel took a stone and set it up as a monument to the Lord. He called that stone “Ebenezer” which means ‘stone of help’. He dedicated that stone with these words, “Thus far has the LORD helped us.”  I Samuel 7:12.
As we arrive at the end of the school year, we too can echo these words of Samuel. We are able to look back over the year, or our lifetime, and say with confidence, “Up to this point, the Lord has been with me.” We can see how the Lord has guided us and, yes, carried us through the difficulties of life. We can see the evidence of His protection and providence everywhere we turn in our lives. Have you set up monuments to the Lord’s help to say thank you, Lord? To remind yourself that we never need to fear because the Lord has proven His love for us in so many ways that we could never doubt His care for us. The next time you hear thunder remember how God used it to save His people and think about how He cares for each of us.

Parent Connection May 13

We Believe
Everyone believes something. Some people say and believe that there is no God. They do not read or believe the Bible which tells about God and what He has done for us. But they can see evidences of God and His wonderful works all around them. The glory of the sun, moon, and stars shows the glory of the Maker. The intricate movement of the planets around the sun shows the wisdom of the Creator. The regular movement of the tides shows the power of the “laws of nature” established by the omnipotent God. The growth of new plants from seemingly dead seeds, the amazing wonders of the human body, even the mysterious beauty of a snowflake all tell us: There Is A God!
Even with all the evidence, there are still those who deny the existence of God. In Psalm 14:1, God declares, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”
Knowledge of God is essential but believing that there is a God is not enough for our salvation. God the Father sent His Son into the world to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. Through that Son we learn about the one true God and what He has done for us and will do for us. We believe that Jesus is our Savior from sin, death, and the devil. We believe that He suffered the punishment we deserved for our sins. We believe that we will live with Him in His Kingdom when our lives here are finished. Some may think us fools for believing this but this is God’s gift of love to us.

Sports Athletes
Track uniforms should be washed and returned as soon as possible.

Parent Connection May 6

On Solid Ground
In the building industry, one cannot stress the importance of a solid foundation too much. If you want your building to last, pay attention to the ground upon which you are building. You need to start your project by digging down to something solid, ideally bedrock, you can’t get much more solid than that. You dig out that which is not solid and backfill with gravel, compacted to make it more solid. You lay your foundation on that solid ground and build your building knowing that when the storms beat upon that building, it will stand. When the ground beneath it shakes and shimmies, the building will remain intact.
In building your life and guiding your child’s building of his or her life, the same principles apply. Each of us has to have something solid to build upon. We need something that won’t change or shift or erode away when the storms of life assault us. There is only one foundation that is solid and certain to last: that is Christ, our Savior. In every trial and trouble in life, He holds us safely in His loving arms, guarding and protecting us from every evil. He is the sure foundation for eternity.
“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it didn’t fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matthew 7:25.
