Parent Connection April 25th

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 26th, our school will be receiving some special visitors. Mr. Paul Hartwig and Mr. Greg Schmill from WELS Commission on Lutheran Schools will be visiting to complete a school assessment. As we look to the future, our congregation’s School Focus Group and our Board for Lay Ministry have invited these experienced gentlemen to come and visit our school with the purpose of helping us to assess our preschool and elementary school programs and give us advice on improvement. They will be briefly visiting each of the classrooms in action, as well as meeting with teachers, support staff, and leadership.
During their visit they would like to meet with a focus group of school parents interested in sharing their perspective on Faith Lutheran School and Faith Lutheran Preschool. This group of parents only will meet with one of our school visitors on Tuesday, April 26th from 3:45-4:45 p.m. All school parents are invited! Your input is very valuable. Please make every effort to attend. Free child care will be provided is needed for those attending this hour long meeting.

Mr. Zarnstorff’s Class – The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be going to the library on Friday.  They will also try to go to lunch as well.  Be sure to send library cards, money for lunch and any books that need to be returned.

Co-Ed Track and Field practices this week:
Tuesday, April 26th – Due to the school assessment, there will be no organized track practice on Tuesday.  Athletes are strongly encouraged to practice on their own as our first meet is Saturday.  Please make an effort to practice on a track near your home. 
Thursday, April 28th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m at the Cuddy Family Midtown Park, on the B Street Side.
The Faith Invitational Track Meet is this Saturday, April 30th at the Wendler Middle School track on Lake Otis and Northern Lights. Team members should be there by 9:30 a.m. to warm up and prepare.
Would you like to help out? Contact Mr. Zarnstorff if you are interested and available to run an event, work the scoring table, or be a timer. All are invited to come and cheer on the Huskies!

May 7th track meet has been moved to Hanshew Middle School on Lake Otis Parkway.  Athletes will need to arrive at 9:30 a.m. to warm up.

You are invited to join us for our weekly school chapel service this Thursday, April 28th, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Families and friends are invited to come and join us in starting our day with the Lord!

Save the Date! Coming up on Friday, May 13th our Preschool through 8th grade will present our Faith Lutheran School “Spring Fling” musical, It’s Cool in the Furnace at 6:30 p.m. at the Mainstage Theater of the UAA Fine Arts Building. Invite your friends and family!

Would you like to hone your cake decorating skills? Sign up for the PTF’s Cake Decorating School Fundraiser Saturday, May 14th from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  Ana Lederhos (Kindergarten parent) will be teaching the Wilton Method of Cake Decorating, Five Steps to a Great Cake.  All the proceeds from this class will be donated to the Sprinkler Fund.  The cost is $30 with supplies and icing provided.  Bring an eight inch cake ready to be decorated.  Sign up soon as space is limited!  Contact Sheila Lillo at  229-7901 to sign up or for more information.

Making Life Better is a Bible class led by Pastor Ewings in which participants will discover how God has made their lives better. This class, covering the basic truths of the Christian faith, is for newcomers to the faith and long-time Christians alike. Making Life Better meets Mondays at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome!

Toddler Time is an hour of educational activities, structured play and a snack for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Toddler Time meets Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m. in the Faith fellowship hall. For more information contact Mrs. Cara Ewings at

Faith’s current women’s Bible study, Living a Chocolate Life, continues this Saturday, April 30th at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Contact Cara Ewings at 792-9388 if you would like to join in. All are welcome!

On Friday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Ewings is leading a small group Bible study called The Art of Marriage. This study touches on topics such as God’s purpose and plan for marriage, how to overcome isolation, fulfilling responsibilities, dealing with communication and conflict, and experiencing real intimacy. All are welcome and invited!

Parent Connection April 18th

Thank you to the volunteers who helped to run our activity booth at Kids’ Day at the Dena’ina Center on Saturday.

Co-Ed Track and Field practices this week Tuesday, April 19th and Thursday, April 21st from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. This week’s practices will be held at the Cuddy Family Midtown Park, on the B Street Side. Parents may pick up their child at the park at 5:30 p.m. or back at school at 5:45 p.m.

Soccer Uniforms – If your child still has a soccer uniform, it is time to bring it back to school.

On Wednesday, April 20th, we will be holding a Kindergarten Round-Up Open House from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Children and parents will be able to visit our Kindergarten classroom, see our curriculum, meet other parents and participate in activities.  Information about our Kindergarten and Elementary school programs will be available, as well as a tour of our facilities. If you would like to participate, please contact the school office to register.
If you know of any other families that might be interested, please share this information with them. Extra flyers are available in the school office.

Parent Connection April 11th

Congratulations to our Soccer team who took first place at the ACSAA Indoor Soccer Tournament this last weekend with an amazing final second goal. Well done, Huskies!
Special thanks to Miss Melissa Mittelstadt, Mr. Andy Zanto, and Mr. Trevor Zarnstorff for serving as our soccer coaches this season!

Co-Ed Track and Field practice begins this week. Track is open to both boys and girls in grades 4 through 8. Practices this week are Tuesday, April 12th and Thursday, April 14th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. This week’s practices will be held at the Cuddy Family Midtown Park, on the B Street Side. Parents may pick up their child at the park at 5:30 p.m. or back at school at 5:45 p.m.
We still can use volunteers to coach and assist. If you are willing and able to help us out, please contact Mr. Zarnstorff.

Junior Choir meets this week Wednesday, April 13th at 12:20 p.m.
The Junior Choir will be singing at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Wasilla on Sunday, April 17th. The service starts at 10:30 a.m. The choir members should be there by 10:15 a.m. to prepare. Anyone needing a ride on Sunday should speak to Mrs. Schneck.
Following the service the Junior Choir will head out to Camp Luther for a picnic. Parents and families are welcome to join the choir for this activity. Students getting a ride from Mrs. Schneck will be back in town in the church parking lot for their parents to pick them up by 2:00 p.m.

Handchime Choir meets this week on Thursday, April 14th at 12:30 p.m.

Kids’ Day is an annual event held at the Dena’ina Center on Saturday, April 16th from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. showcasing programs available for the children of the Anchorage area. Each year Faith Lutheran School has a booth with an activity for kids and information on our school and pre-school program for families.
We can still use volunteers to help at our booth. If you are able to help, even for just an hour or two, please contact Mrs. Zarnstorff.

PTF Meeting – Tuesday April 12th, at 7:00pm. On the agenda is Kid’s Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, Field Day and End of School Picnic.  Please make an effort to attend.  PTF is a great way to get involved in your child’s life and support their school. Election of new officers will be at the meeting in May. PTF has 4 officers: Chair, Co-chair, Secretary and Treasurer.  Secretary and Treasurer may be held by non-members of Faith Lutheran Church.  If you are interested or know someone who you would like to nominate, complete the attached form and drop off at the office or with one of the teachers or email the office at faithlutheran@gci.net


Thanks to the students and families of Faith, who put their pennies and small (and big!) change together in the last month for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients! We took a few extra days to collect, so we will announce the results at chapel this Thursday. Thanks again for supporting this worthy cause.

Parent Connection, April 4th

Thank you to those parents and students who helped out at our “Underwater Adventure” event for families on Saturday!

Co-Ed Indoor Soccer practices this week on Tuesday, April 5th and Thursday, April 7th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Taku Elementary.

The ACSAA Indoor Soccer Tournament is this Friday, April 8th. The tournament wil be played at UAA’s Wells Fargo Building on Providence Drive from 4-7 p.m.
Come cheer for your Huskies!

As this is a tournament week, we also have some Spirit Days Planned:
Wednesday, April 6th – Beach Day
Dress for fun in the sun! Hawaiian shirts, shorts, etc. (No swimsuits.) Make sure to bring sweat pants or snow pants for outside recess.
Thursday, April 7th – Camo Day
Where did the students go? Wear camouflage clothing of any kid.
Friday, April 8th – School Pride/Teal and Gold
Dress in your school colors if you have them, or wear your school logo t-shirt, sweat shirt, or if you are a Faith athlete, your Faith sports uniform. Go Huskies!
Please note: These are not “dress down” days. Students not dressed for the spirit day theme should wear their school uniforms.

Friday was the last official day for Pennies for Patients collection. However, if you have forgotten to return your coin box, you can still bring it in to your classroom  by Wednesday morning. Men’s Bible Study meets Saturday, April 9th at Barbie’s CafĂ© on Lake Otis Parkway at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Ewings is currently leading the study “Five Things You Can Do to Live a Jesus-Centered Life”. Please contact Pastor Ewings at 792-9788 to sign up or order a book.
