Parent Connection September 24

Let Us Run the Race…
On Saturday morning, our six cross country runners represented our school at the state meet for our Christian Schools Association. They each ran their race the best that they could. They had practiced since the beginning of school for this one race. They came Saturday morning all bundled up because it was cooler than it had been during our practices. When the race time came they took off their sweatshirts and sweatpants so they would not be slowed down by these extra clothes. They ran their races and the teams were successful.
The writer to the Hebrews compares our life to a race when he writes, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2. The writer encourages us to focus our eyes on Jesus each and every day of our life, when things are going well and when things are not going so well. He is the One who gives us faith so we can persevere in that faith to reach the goal of our faith.
On Saturday morning, Mrs. Zarnstorff’s mother reached the goal of her faith. She finished her race and is now with her Lord and Savior. We praise the Lord for the comfort He provides for us at this time.

Got a Stiff Neck?
On Saturday morning I woke up with a stiff neck and a headache. I’m not sure if I had slept in a wrong position or if I had strained my neck in some way. It took a while for the muscle to relax and the pain to subside. If I move my head in a certain way, I will still feel a little twinge of pain to remind me not to do that.
Many times in Scriptures, God calls the Israelites “a stiff-necked” people. I don’t think He used that in a complimentary way. Nor do I think He was talking about them after a night of sleeping in a wrong position.
In studying this phrase, I found that it is often used to imply a stubbornness, compared to an ox or donkey that refuses to respond to the direction of the farmer. The animal has made up its mind to go where it wants to go, and will not be dissuaded from its goal. The people often turned away from their God and failed to respond to His repeated calls to repentance.
I also feel that this phrase implies that a “stiff-necked” person has a difficult time bowing his/her head to the Lord, yielding to God’s will for their life. God loves us and His will for us is always what is best for us. We bow before Him, knowing that He cares deeply for each of us.
Here is a warning for us from Proverbs 29:1, “A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed – without remedy.”  May God help us to humbly bow before Him as our Creator, Redeemer, and Comforter.

Cross Country
Tuesday and Thursday training will continue this week as scheduled.  The meet on Saturday, Sept. 22nd, will be at Abbott Loop Park.  We still don’t have details, but as soon as we do it will be sent home with the runners.
Hot Lunch
We will be having a hot lunch this Thursday, Sept. 20th.  The menu is tacos, carrots, fruit, and dessert.  For those of you new to Faith, PTF sponsors a hot lunch once a month.  Lunch is served in the fellowship hall and enjoyed with the entire school.  Parents are welcome to purchase a lunch and eat with their children.
The cost is $4 per person, and participation is optional.  If your student would like to participate, simply complete the hot lunch form and return with payment.  You may pay by check or cash.  Checks should be made out to Faith Lutheran PTF.  Because this is sponsored by PTF, the charge cannot be added to your TADS account.

It Seemed That All Was Lost…
Things were not going well for the home team and then things took a turn for the worse. The leader of the team went down and when he tried to get up, he went down again. After an evaluation on the sidelines, the fans worst fears were confirmed and their warrior was carted off of the field. The crowd was hushed by the sight. It seemed that all was lost.
Compare the reaction during last night’s game to how the disciples must have felt after seeing their Messiah arrested, beaten, falsely accused, and convicted. They had stood by helplessly as their Champion was nailed to a cross, lifted up, and suffered excruciating pain and sorrow. They saw Him breathe His last breath and saw His lifeless body deposited in the tomb. All their hopes and aspirations lay dashed in the dust. All seemed to be lost.
Jesus rose from that grave and proclaimed His victory over sin, death, and Satan. His disciples had a hard time comprehending what they had experienced, it changed everything. In His death, He won! This was God’s plan so that we could be with Him forever in His kingdom. He gave up everything so we could have everything in eternity. He calls us to be His own and serve Him here on earth and forever in heaven. He changes everything!
