Parent Connection October 27th Issue #11

Chapel Service
You are invited to join us for our weekly chapel service this Thursday, October 30th, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Our chapel service message will be presented by Pastor Ewings. The theme this week is “Living for Jesus Means Being God’s Friend” (Abraham).  Families and friends are invited to come join us in starting our day with the Lord.
This week’s mission offering will be our last special collection for Nigeria. This offering will be combined with mission offerings from Grace Lutheran School in Kenai and the offering from our area Reformation service on Sunday for the purchase of a motorcycle for the Nigerian pastors to use when visiting mission stations in the bush, as roads are often difficult or impassable at certain times of the year. Please remember our brother and sister believers in Nigeria in your prayers.

Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball
On Tuesday, October 28th, the boys and girls will play Anchor Lutheran at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Girls play at 4:15 p.m. and boys at 5:15 p.m.
On Thursday, October 30th the boys and girls will play Birchwood Christian at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Girls play at 4:15 p.m. and boys at 5:15 p.m.

Boxtops for Education
Our next deadline for boxtops is Wednesday, October 29th. Please bring in any boxtops you have saved for us by that time, and keep saving! Thanks!

Our Scholastic Book Fair is this week in the fellowship hall. Come shop from a selection of titles for children, teens and adults. Proceeds help to provide books and classroom materials to our school through Faith PTF. Would you like to help out? Please contact Tina Henry for more information.

Field Trip
On Tuesday, October 28th Grades 1-5 will be attending the noon performance of Schoolhouse Rock at the Performing Arts Center.

Library Visit
Both Mr. Schneck’s class (6-8) and Mr. Zarnstorff’s class (3-5) will be visiting the Loussac Library on Friday, October 31st. Students are reminded to bring their library cards and any books that are due.

Students in grades K-2 will be getting their photos taken for the school yearbook on Friday, October 31st.

Math-a-thon
Math-a-thon donation envelopes need to be turned in to Mrs. Schneck by Thursday, October 30th! Finish your Math-a-thon books and collect your donations! See Mrs. Schneck if you have any questions.

Parent Connection October 20th Issue #10

Chapel Service
You are invited to join us for our weekly chapel service this Thursday, October 23rd, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Our chapel service message will be presented by Missionary Doug Weiser. Pastor Weiser serves as a missionary in Nigeria. Following the service he will present a brief video presentation on the mission work being done there. Families and friends are invited to come join us in starting our day with the Lord.
For the next two chapel services we will continue to collect our mission offerings for a special project for Nigeria. Handchime Choir will play for the chapel service on Thursday, October 23rd. Handchime choir members will meet in the church to practice before chapel at 8:18 a.m.

On Tuesday, October 21st, the boys and girls will play games at Lumen Christi. Girls play at 4:15 p.m. and boys at 5:15 p.m. Go Huskies!
Thursday, October 23rd will be a regular practice at St. John’s United Methodist Church from 4:00-5:45 p.m.

There is a change in venue for next week’s games:

·         October 30th at St John’s playing Birchwood

Boxtops for Education

Our “AROUND THE WORLD” Harvest Carnival takes place on October 24th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Come in costume to join us for games, food, fellowship and fun!
We still need volunteers to run some of our Harvest Carnival activities. We are also asking for donations of candy for the Harvest Carnival and baked treats for our cakewalk.
Candy donations can be brought at any time and left in the school office. Cakes, cupcakes, caramel
apples, and any creations fit for our Cake Walk can be brought to school from Tuesday, October 21st and left in the kitchen. Please label items left “For Cake Walk”.

Parent/Teacher consultations are this Thursday evening and Friday morning, October 23rd and 24th.
At the end of the first quarter we require parents to make a meeting with the teacher to collect their first quarter report and discuss their child’s progress. Our registration for parent teacher consultations this year will be done online using Sign-Up Genius. If you are unable to make an appointment at the times still available, please speak to your child’s teacher to arrange for a meeting at an alternate time. Please speak to Mr. Schneck if you have any questions or difficulty signing up online. The sign-up will be closed on Tuesday, October 21st.
          Mrs. Tina Henry has volunteered babysitting services in the fellowship hall during conference times on Thursday evening and Friday morning while parents are meeting with their child’s teacher.

Parent Connection October 13th Issue #9

Chapel Service

This week’s message:  Living for Jesus Means Looking Forward to Heaven.  Families and friends are invited to come join us in starting our day with the Lord.

Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball have games this week.
Tuesday, October 14th the boys and girls will play a co-ed game at 4:15 p.m. @ St. John’s United Methodist Church vs. Holy Rosary Academy. The boys’ and girls’ teams will be playing games at Stringer Memorial Gym in Wasilla vs. Wasilla Lake on Thursday, October 16th. The girls’ game takes place at 5:00 p.m. and the boys’ game is at 6:00 p.m. GO Huskies!

There will be a Harvest Carnival work night on Wednesday, October 15th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. You are invited to come for any part of or the entire time. We can use any interested and available persons to help us put together a great evening of fun for our school and church family. We still need volunteers to run some of our Harvest Carnival activities. We are also asking for donations of candy for the Harvest Carnival and baked treats for our cakewalk.

This is the final week of our first quarter.
Our last day of this first quarter is Friday, October 17th. Classes will dismiss at 12:00 noon. There will be no aftercare.
At the end of the first quarter we require parents to make a meeting with the teacher to collect their first quarter report and discuss their child’s progress. Our consultation days will be Thursday, October 23rd from 4-9 p.m. and Friday, October 24th from 8 a.m. until noon.

Hot lunch will be available to the students this Thursday, October 16th. On the menu is lasagna, garlic bread, salad, milk  and dessert. Please see the attached note to sign up.

Math-A-Thon is a way students can raise money for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  The forms were sent home last week.  Participation forms are due Tuesday, October 14th or you can begin immediately online.  Once your math is complete pledges are due Thursday, October30th.  Extra forms are available in the office.

THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th IS OUR “NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM” SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR!
Come and hear about some famous historical figures from the figures themselves! Ask questions and find out more about these fascinating people from throughout history.
The fair is open from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by Faith PTF.
