Parent Connection May 20

Up to This Point….
The Israelites had once again strayed away from the Lord and His worship. They had been attacked and subdued by their enemies. They came to their senses and turned back to the Lord and asked Samuel to pray to the Lord for them. Samuel told them to meet him at a certain place and he would offer sacrifices for them and pray for them. When the leaders of the Israelites had gathered with Samuel, the enemies heard about the gathering and decided that it was their opportunity to really do some damage to the Israelite community so they gathered their army to attack.
As Samuel was offering the burnt offering to the Lord, the Philistines gathered to attack but never got near the Israelites. The Lord heard the cries of his people and “thundered” His answer. That thunder struck fear in the hearts of the Philistines and threw them into such disarray that they were easily routed by the Israelites.
After the battle, Samuel took a stone and set it up as a monument to the Lord. He called that stone “Ebenezer” which means ‘stone of help’. He dedicated that stone with these words, “Thus far has the LORD helped us.”  I Samuel 7:12.
As we arrive at the end of the school year, we too can echo these words of Samuel. We are able to look back over the year, or our lifetime, and say with confidence, “Up to this point, the Lord has been with me.” We can see how the Lord has guided us and, yes, carried us through the difficulties of life. We can see the evidence of His protection and providence everywhere we turn in our lives. Have you set up monuments to the Lord’s help to say thank you, Lord? To remind yourself that we never need to fear because the Lord has proven His love for us in so many ways that we could never doubt His care for us. The next time you hear thunder remember how God used it to save His people and think about how He cares for each of us.
