Parent Connection #34 - May 5, 2014

Please join us for our weekly chapel service this Thursday, May 8th, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. Begin your day with the students of Faith Lutheran as we worship our Lord together. This week President David Maertz from Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown, South Dakota. Great Plains is a WELS Lutheran High School where several of our former students attend.
Following the service President Maertz will be making a presentation about Great Plains to grades 5-8.  Parents interested in Great Plains are welcome to attend this presentation. Can’t make the presentation but still interested in Great Plains? Please email President Maertz at dmaertz@gplhs.org and he would be happy to arrange to meet with you.You can also take a closer look at Great Plains and what they have to offer by visiting their website: www.gplhs.org

The Handchime choir will be playing for this chapel service. Handchime students, please meet in the church at 8:15 to prepare.

The students of Mrs. Zarnstorff, Mrs. Schneck, and Mrs. Ewings will be presenting a piano recital this Thursday, May 8th at 4:30 p.m. All are invited to come and enjoy this showcase of the students’ achievements of the past year. Light refreshments will be served following.

Congratulations to our track team for their showing at the ACSAA State Track Meet last Saturday at Wasilla High School. Seven teams competed. In their divisions, our junior high boys team took 3rd place, our Elementary girls took 2nd place, and our Elementary boys took  first place.
Specific results for each event will be posted in the school hallway along with the results of last week’s Faith Invitational. Special thanks to Mr. Zarnstorff for coaching our track team!

Track was the last athletic for the school year. Students who participated in athletics this year are reminded to return their sports uniforms to Mr. Zarnstorff as soon as possible.

Three students from grade 8 will be confirmed in their faith as they become adult members of the church this Sunday: Chloe Robbert, Jacob Henry, and Gideon Schneck. Their rite of Confirmation will take place in the 11:00 a.m. service at Faith Lutheran this Sunday, May 11th. Family and friends are invited to join us as we recognize and celebrate with those students who are becoming communicant members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Following the service there will be a picnic/potluck at Jewel Lake Park until 3:00 p.m. Our school family is invited to join us. Meat, drinks, and cake will be provided. Those participating are asked to bring a side dish or salad to share.

Parents’ Night Out
The Faith teens will be helping Mrs. Henry to run the last Parents’ Night Out on Friday, May 9th from 5:30-9 p.m. Take the opportunity for a little break while the teens keep your child entertained.
This will be a bike / scooter night! Children can be dropped off with their bikes or scooters to use on the parking lot. PLEASE NOTE: HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. Children will not be allowed to use their bikes or scooters unless they bring their own helmet and wear it while riding.
Sign-up for this Parents’ Night Out on the poster in the school hallway.
We appreciate the parents who have volunteered all year to organize and chaperone our Parents’ Night Out activities.
Camp Luther and Faith PTF are allowing the teens to run our spring parking lot sale, which is now scheduled for Saturday, May 24th due to a conflict with our summer construction plans for the facility. Faith teens are asking for your donations to help them raise funds to help cover the cost of their attendance at the WELS International Youth Rally in June!
They are willing to pick up your gently used items as donations for the sale. Do you have junk to get rid of? They will take that too and gladly haul it away for a free-will donation. They may even be able to arrange some spring cleaning help for you. Contact Mr. Schneck at 331-7761 and he will arrange for some delightful and energetic teens to serve you.

Do you use a Fred Meyer card? Your purchases can help earn money for our school. Thirteen families have already raised $362 for our school! If you would like to join them, please visit www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards to sign up. Thanks!
