It Always Seems to Happen
on One of the Coldest Days of the Year
If there is going to be a day when one
of the cars belonging to someone in my household is going to need some sort of
attention, it is going to happen on a day that is the coldest we have had in a
while. Such was the case on Saturday. My
daughter told me that her car didn’t start on Friday morning. She was certain
that it was not the battery because everything worked on the car except it
wouldn’t turn over. I thought to myself
that if it were something more than a battery, it was not going to be fixed on Saturday.
It turned out to be a battery problem,
it had reached the five year mark in its life and would no longer hold a
charge. The cold weather just hastened the inevitable demise of the battery. A
dead battery does nothing to start our cars.
In our lives, our engines are dead
from the beginning, and we have nothing to get us started in our life with God.
God needs to act upon us to start that life within us. Through His Word and
Spirit, He installs faith in our hearts to believe the promises He makes to us.
Through this faith, He gives us the ability to work for Him and produce works
that honor Him. This battery of faith needs to be regularly recharged and
maintained through the application of the Word and Sacrament throughout our
life here on earth. Unlike the battery in our cars, our faith battery doesn’t
have a warranty that runs out just when you most need it. It will take you all
the way to eternity.
Bible Information Class
A child’s Christian education is only
as good as the cooperation between parents and teachers. To this end, we feel strongly that all
parents need to hear our fundamental beliefs and understand
the basic doctrines that all of our school children are taught. Therefore, we invite parents of school
children to attend Pastor Ewing’s “Making Life Better Class” that continues
tonight, January 29.
This
class is an extensive review of the basic doctrines taught in the Bible and,
therefore, in this school. Parents who
complete the class will receive a $500 discount on their child’s tuition for
each of three years after completing the class.
The Dome
Preschool
and FLS students will be going to the Dome tomorrow, January 30th from
10:00-12:00 pm. Students are not allowed to wear shorts, however, they
may wear athletic pants or sweat pants.
Please bring sneakers to play on the field, and car seats if your
student needs to be in one.
If
you have volunteered to help, please be at the school by 9:30 a.m.
Library Visit
The Kindergarten
and 5th-8th grade classes will be visiting the library

The menu will be chicken with sides of pasta, fresh vegetables, Olive
Garden Salad and breadsticks. We will have
dessert and drinks as well.
We
look forward to seeing you there for fellowship and a great meal.
Tardiness/Absences
Classes
start promptly at 8:30. Students who
miss the start of the school day often feel rushed and can become unfocused and
stressed for the day. Please make every
effort to have your student to school on time.
This means adequate planning, especially on days with inclement weather.
If
your child will be absent from school, contact the school before 8:30. Please make every effort to collect your child’s
assignments on that day so the missed assignments may be completed at home.
For
planned early dismissals and absences, send a written note in advance of the
absence. Children often forget to inform
their teachers or do not remember the details.
Please make
school as important to your child as work is important to you, even in the
primary grades. Tardiness and absences
though sometimes necessary, are frustrating and stressful to students,
teachers, and the classroom as a whole.
Frivolous excuses for tardiness and absences can teach children their
educational responsibilities aren’t important and can be detrimental to the
value they place on education in the future.
Please act in the best interest of your child in this regard.
February Birthdays
God’s
blessings on your birthday and throughout the year.
